The iconic OPS INC™ brake, recognized the world over as the primary host muzzle device for all OPS INC™ and Allen Engineering™ brake mounted suppressors. It features a single exit port, directed slightly upward to direct muzzle blast away from the ground during unsuppressed use, minimizing dust kick up. The brake acts as a sacrificial blast baffle inside the suppressor, both improving performance as well as prolonging the life of your AEM5 or other suppressor. The OPS INC™ brake helps direct gasses back into the reflex section of the suppressor better than a flash hider and is a better choice for applications where you will shoot unsuppressed rarely, if ever.
Originally, all the brakes were the long variant. These required a small number of shims to time the brake correctly. Unique among suppressors however, alignment and retention of an OPS INC™ or Allen Engineering™ suppressor is achieved by the tapered collar mounted on the barrel, which means this is the only suppressor mount that can be installed with a crush washer if desired. Use of a crush washer was originally done by request of DoD, notably in the 12th Model (AEM5) suppressor on MK12 SPR. For a clone correct Mk12, choose the short 5.56 brake. The short brake is provided with a 0.135? spacer in case you decide to use shims instead of a crush washer.
In all variations, the brake is the same with the exception of the exit aperture (caliber specific) and the length of the thread extension. Available variations include (we don't carry the short version):
1/2-28 (5.56) long
5/8-24 (.30 cal) long
No shims or thread protector are provided with individual brakes, these can be ordered separately (see related items below the page)
All brakes are 300 series stainless steel and black oxide coated. The exit aperture can easily be bored larger by a gunsmith to accommodate odd mounting situations. You may also forego use of the spacer with the short brake if it helps you achieve the desired offset length. See the documentation for your specific suppressor for more information about your situation.
