An often asked question thus far is whether OPF-G6, RMR will fill the gap in front and back of the RMR on Gen 6 ORS slides. We'll fill the gap in front and rear gap. The 2020 to 2024 RMR plates we made did use the front fence and it's functional, the latest 2024 and forward RMR footprint revision code 84 no longer uses the front fence to keep the sight immobile but has retained it for cosmetics. The rear fence on our Glock RMR plates is cosmetic and serves no real function, but both will be present on OPF-G6, RMR.
OPF-G6, RMR will require a sealing plate for RMR, we believe this is a logical and practical choice.
RMR is one of four RMR footprint sights Trijicon makes (RMR, RMR HD, RCR, and SRO). Of the four, only one (RMR) has an open battery access on the bottom.
Whereas on the MOS, it makes sense to support the full width of the RMR footprint sights, which also removes the need for a sealing plate for RMRs, the M3 screws used for MOS plates are small and the thickness required required to accommodate the countersink of the M3 screw can be less than 0.1"
Gen 6 ORS has two sets of screw holes. Both 6-32 and M4 screws are bigger with a much longer and larger countersink area to content with, and the thickness of a base for the plate is significantly different.
We had both the full width support version (requires no sealing plate) and the one we chose to be the production OPF-G6, RMR prototypes (without full width support) made. The full width support version is 0.03" thicker due to having a 0.03 (thin but still adds thickness) base.
To us, it doesn't make sense to impose the 0.030" height penalty on RMR HD, RCR and SRO users that neither need nor benefit from having a full width support made just for the RMR. RMR users retain the lowered install height Gen 6 ORS provides by using a sealing plate. RMR HD, RCR, and SRO don't need a sealing plate, while all the sights sit lower by not having a full width support.
We have our ORS compatible backup sights charts nearly ready. RMR HD, RCR and SRO that require backup sights with a front sight height of at lest 0.350, preferably 0.365, can now use sight sets with a front sight height as low as 0.315 with OPF-G6, RMR. A full width support OPF-G6, RMR will forfeit any installed RDS height reduction afforded by Gen 6 ORS.
We can make both versions, but don't believe the full width version will be popular due to the increased installed RDS height.
Glock Gen 6 ORS uses a polymer insert in leu of an adapter plate. OPF-G6 RMR does not. The elasticity meant to provide upward tension from its elasticity also applies to the lugs on the insert.
Our plates have never used or relied on upward tension to keep the plate-to-slide screws from loosening, we successfully use other means for the same end. With MOS, plate-to-slide screws are separate from sight-to-plate. With Gen 6 ORS, it's an insert with lugs, screws go through the RMR and DPP and directly thread into the slide. We don't want lugs to have elasticity or give, when that happens, the load is transferred to the screws, our plate is specifically designed to remove the load transfer to plate-to slide screws.
All OPF-G6 plates are milled in 17-4 stainless steel. 17-4 stainless is an option we've made available on many of our Gen 5 MOS plates for MIL and LE customers, it's standard on FCD Gen 6 ORS compatible plates. We don't believe aluminum is a suitable material for anything that can experience up to 1800G in recoil, especially for sights like P2 and MSP that use a cross bolt. A 2.1oz P2 weighs 236lbs in 1800G, we're not taking chances with aluminum.
